Evaluation of school enhancement and enrichment projects and programmes

Many research funders in both the public, private and charitable sectors have been supporting enhancement and enrichment activities to foster young people’s interest in science and engineering. Much of this work is undertaken in schools and PSP has been a leading player in the development of evaluation processes to track the short and longer-term impacts of these activities.

Working with schools presents specific challenges given that the need to accommodate teachers’ requirements and timetabling constraints demands a high level of flexibility from evaluators. We use a mixture of new data collection and analysis of management data to maximise the depth of an evaluation, whilst minimising the load on teachers and students.

To collect new data we use surveys, interviews and focus groups combined with statistical analysis to identify changes in attitudes and future study intentions resulting from specific initiatives.

Our clients have included the education departments in both England and Scotland, Research Councils, the Royal Society, the Wellcome Trust and NESTA.
